Sharon, from what I understand pico-projectors are still relatively expensive or underpowered or both.
A handful have an output of 40-50 lumens, but most are in the 10s or 20s. They all seem to start around $200-$300+. Your combination of cheap, idiot-proof, and bright enough in not-total-darkness is probably still a few years off.
I'm not sure it's worth the money for the handful of videos you'll be showing to a bunch of semi-conscious teens. :)
