Politics Makes Me Crazy II

Recent posts on my friend Tricia's blog made me think again about the state of our nation and here is my comment:

I don't agree with everything going on with our current administration, I also disagree with a lot of the opposing side's views, and I think there has to be a better way with healthcare. Right now it works for the mostly healthy, gainfully employed middle class (most of the time) and is such a giant mess.

Mostly I am sad that our country has become so uncivil to each other, that the word patriot has been claimed by the right, and that in such short order the sense of doom has descended upon us. I am skeptical that the free market will govern itself admirably -- Wall Street? Mortgage industry? Yet I acknowledge that regulation can mess things up.

In the end I believe in our system, in checks and balance. I also believe things are a mess, that the system is corrupted. That people on both sides of the aisle have not been working for US. That things are out of control. I just think there is blame to share and polarizing our country with inflammatory labels and accusations on each side does not promote cooperation and good solutions.

And that's all I have to say about that.

It's not just believing in different politics anymore. Now it's an all-out verbal brawl to discredit and shame those who you don't agree with.
It's absolutely ridiculous; it reminds me of laughing (as a class) at McCarthyism in my American History classes in college. It seemed absurd that "sensible" Americans would buy into that fear-laden propaganda. I guess we haven't learned anything over the past 1/2 a century.

Sharon, I have to say I agree with you completely. Where are the moderates in government when we need them? I feel strongly that our current health care system is not working, yet I'm not a strong believer in a government-run system. However, I feel like something needs to change, and I'm not a fan of the far right screaming about the "socialist left" without presenting any via options to improve a system that obviously isn't working and that the Republicans couldn't manage to improve in 20 years of leadership.

I could go on and on, but the bottom line is, I agree with you. Moderation in all things . . . Love and miss you!
